Test GPX support (GPS devices and navigation apps)

May 9, 2017

There are many different GPS devices and navigation apps on the market and we cannot possibly test them all. If you want to check how well your GPS unit or your preferred navigation app works with GPX files exported by Furkot you can use the files listed on this page.

Please feel free to email us to share results of your tests. That will help us provide support for even more types of GPS devices and navigation apps.

Some GPS devices / navigation apps only include maps from a single continent or a country. That's why you'll find two sets of files on this page: one for European trips, and another one for trips in North America. Use the set for the region supported by your GPS device or navigation app.

All the files below were generated by Furkot, exported - respectively - from Europe and America trips.

To test your GPS device click each file below to download and transfer to the device and check the result against the expected behavior. If something does not seem to work as described please email us providing the type and model of the GPS device.

To test your preferred navigation app open this page on your phone or tablet and click each file below. Depending on the phone the file you may be presented with option to download or open the file. Alternatively you may download the files to your computer and transfer them to your phone using Dropbox or email.

Test files

The test files below have been exported with the file format set to GPS exchange file (.gpx). If you have a newer Garmin GPS device, it will work with the files below but Furkot has an export option - Garmin route GPX (.gpx) - that may be better suited to your device.

  1. All export options (tracks and routes) unchecked

Expected behavior: the GPS device / navigation app should display stops but use its own algorithm to calculate routes between stops; the routes may be different from the ones calculated by Furkot.

  1. Only option tracks checked

Expected behavior: the GPS device / navigation app should display stops and may display tracks between them. For navigation purposes the GPS device / navigation app will most likely recalculate routes between stops; the resulting routes may be different from the ones calculated by Furkot.

  1. Only option routes checked (with 50 points per route)

Expected behavior: the GPS device / navigation app should display stops and routes between them. With 50 points constraining each route the GPS device should follow the same routes as the ones calculated by Furkot.

  1. All export options (tracks and routes) checked

Expected behavior: the GPS device / navigation app should display stops and may display tracks and/or routes between them. With 50 points constraining each route the GPS device should follow the same routes as the ones calculated by Furkot. Tracks can be used to visually verify that the routes calculated by the GPS device / navigation app are the same as the ones calculated by Furkot.
